The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Visitor to the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Muhammau Buhari, has noted with concern the report of the crisis at the University on the process leading to the appointment of a new Vice-Chancellor.

The President, in line with his powers as the Visitor to the University, has therefore approved that the Senate of the University should convene a meeting to recommend a qualified member to the Honorable Minister of Education for appointment as Acting Vice-Chancellor.

Also aware of the level of insecurity occasioned by the actions of some Staff Unions on campus, the Federal Government has directed that all offices and facilities be opened for normal administrative and academic activities to enable a quick resolution of the impasse.

The attention of members of the University community, especially members of Senate of the University and that of the Staff Unions involved, is hereby accordingly drawn to the directive of the Visitor to the University requesting for a recommendation of an Acting Vice-Chancellor and the Government’s directive to the Staff Unions that offices and facilities of the University be opened for normal administrative and academic activities to allow for a quick resolution of the crisis.
